Review - One Amazing Thing by Chitra Banerjee Divakaruni

One Amazing Thing
by Chitra Banerjee Divakaruni
Rating: 4/5

I picked this book up because the summary intrigued me. A bunch of strangers at the Visa office of an Indian Embassy gets stuck together when an earthquake hit and the building collapsed on top of them, thankfully some survived. While they waited for outside rescue, the strangers end up telling stories about their lives. That one amazing thing about their lives.

It's one of those usual tropes like STUCK IN AN ELEVATOR or STUCK TOGETHER IN A TRAGIC SITUATION WHERE YOU HAVE NO CHOICE BUT TO WORK TOGETHER AND TALK TO EACH OTHER.

I don't mind the trope.

Most of their stories were very poignant, bittersweet and sad. But also, always filled with love. Or a form of love or maybe tragic that makes you sympathize with the characters that are telling their stories. I couldn't put down this book and just read this in one go.
The only downside of it, is that... THE ENDING! I wanted to know MORE! STORIES!

Overall a great book to try out.

I told myself to read at least 1 non-fiction book, but alas, I picked up a fictional book. I really enjoy fictional novels for the smooth writing and their straightforward and concise language of the human heart that each and every one of us has a different story to tell.
